Community Outreach Initiatives

How The Community Outreach Initiative Came To Be

In 2011, WAMM continued to cultivate opportunities for program participants to make even greater impacts at a population level. This would be the year an inquisitive YS student voiced his question to a guest lecturer from the WHO concerning the efficacy of administering liquid vaccination drops to fasting children during Ramadan. This one question would change the nationwide vaccination campaign for the rest of the year and subsequently created an opportunity for a student team to partner with the WHO's Polio Eradication Initiative to create their own unique way of educating a previously 'non-complainant' community about polio. This new student partnered project facilitated the expansion of YS program to include a 2 week training course on how to engineer high value, low cost community outreach initiatives (COI's).
